Collaborating, Researching and Thinking

The Year 4 students visited the Canning River Eco Education Centre as part of the HASS and Science curriculum.  They learned about the Noongar people’s strong connection with the wetlands and rivers that flow across the Swan Coastal Plain.

Students participated and were engaged in different activities. These activities allowed them to experience how the resources provided by the land and river were traditionally used and how the seasons dictated their availability and sustainable use.

They had to be collaborators, communicators, researchers, thinkers, and self-managers

Students had to work together to create a fishing wall. In order to build the wall, they were required to follow certain rules and to work together to get to the end results.

This allowed the students to practice their Learning Assets (https://www.kathmurdoch.com.au).

They had to be collaborators, communicators, researchers, thinkers, and self-managers to be able to successfully complete the fishing wall (otherwise they were going to be hungry!). Alhamdulillah, it was a very successful excursion.
