Signing with Auslan for Language Week

Allah (SWT) asks us the same question 31 times in Surah Rahman:

فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَان

“Which of the favours of your Lord, will you deny?”

Realising the favour of speech and being able to communicate in many ways, how can a sensible person be anything but thankful to Allah?

As thinkers, we should reflect on the different languages we use to communicate.

As part of our school Language Week in August activities, Pre-Primary to Year 2 students had the opportunity to participate in an incursion from Access Plus WA Deaf.

The incursion provided opportunities for students to learn about the Auslan Language and gave students a basic introduction and understanding of Basic Auslan.

Access Plus WA Deaf provided a 1-hour Deafness Awareness Training (DAT) for our Lower Primary students learning how to sign greetings, food and animals from the Auslan Deaf Tutor Linda Cross and the Auslan Interpreter Maddie Kaputin.

The students were engaged and enjoyed learning a new language and were inspired to continue learning Auslan!
