At Al-Hidayah Islamic School we highlight the linguistic diversity among our students with presentations and activities during Languages Week 5-9th of August 2019.
Languages are also a reflective part of our faith as Allah (SWT) created different skin colours and languages as a sign of His creative power.
وَمِنْ آيَاته خَلْق السَّمَاوَات وَالْأَرْض وَاخْتِلَاف أَلْسِنَتكُمْ وَأَلْوَانكُمْ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَات لِلْعَالِمِينَ
(الروم 22)
Allah (SWT) said:
Among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colours. Verily, in that are signs for people of knowledge.(Surah Ar-Ruum: 22)
Students practised the languages they were able to speak and identified their country of origin flags, designed reusable bags with words in different languages.
They created posters on why languages learning is important and highlighted where the Arabic language is used in our school landscape.
Students also had a go at learning a new word in another language.
